Iproteos founder Prof. Ernest Giralt was awarded the National Research Award 2011 by the Spanish Ministry of Science. He was recognized in the category of Science and Technology for his contributions to the design, synthesis, controlled modification and structure of peptides and proteins, as well as for his contributions to advancing the study of the function of proteins involved in the development of Alzheimer’s disease and schizophrenia, and more recently for the use of peptides in nanobiotechnology to create remote-controlled drugs.

Iproteos, among the 31 new technological spin-off companies launched in 2011 with support from ACC1Ó, the agency set up by the Catalan Government to promote competitiveness among enterprises. ACC1Ó fosters the establishment and growth of new technology-based companies in Catalonia, enabling technology transfer from basic research and universities into the business world.

The scientists of Iproteos will attend the workshop organized by the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC) in Oegsteest (The Netherlands), which will be focused on the current safety and toxicity tests carried out in pre-clinical and clinical stages.

Iproteos participates at Bioemprenedor XXI competition. BioEmprenedorXXI is promoted by the main biotechnology agents of Spain “ la Caixa”, Barcelona Activa, Biocat, Genoma España and La Cambra de Comerç de Barcelona. The winner wil be announced in November.

Iproteos has been awarded with the Young Entrepreneur Prize from ASEBIO, Genoma España, SEBiot and SEBB. Dr. Teresa Tarragó, founder of Iproteos, received the young entrepreneur award in the Entrepreneur Forum held during the Conference of the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The prize was sponsored by ASEBIO, Genoma España, SEBiot and SEBBM.
